Positive Behavior Support Specialist
Job Summary
This Positive Behavior Support Specialist oversees agency behavior support programs and works directly with people who are in mental health crisis or who have significant behaviors that jeopardize their continued community placement and/or success. Additionally, this position works with and supports the person's team by modeling, coaching and teaching skills that will improve their ability to be effective in supporting the person to achieve success.
Demands of the Job
- Coordinate crisis response with team, ensuring safety of all parties.
- Work with team to complete a variet of assessments on people to develop a plan and evaluate effectivenss o hte plan
- Collaborating with other professionals to provide the best services
- Serve as a Co-Chair of the Positive Behavior Support Committee
- Complete and integrate agency offered training in the areas of Person Centered Thinking tools and Sensory Processing Interventions
- Physical ability to stand/ walk (for extended periods of time), knee, squat, twist, crouch, and bend (moderate amount), lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds (may exceed 50 pounds during medical and safety emergency situation) with or without varying amounts of assistance on a reoccurring basis; push, pull, or transfer, climb and balance periodically as needed.
- Ability to perform CPR and de-escalation and physical interventions
Requirements for Employment
- Preferred college degree and 2 years of experience working with people with IDD with challenging behaviors
- Experience in and knowledge of behavior consultations, crisis intervention, the effect of medication on behavior and teaching
- Flexibility in work schedule and ability to adjust quickly to suddenly workload changes, potential consultations in evenings/weekends. s
- Fluency in oral and written English with strong computer skills
Extensive training is provided to new employees to enable them to do the best work possible.
