Aspire is proud to recognize Stephanie Skarin as our December Shooting Star Award Winner!

I would like to recognize Steph for her actions on Saturday, November 14th that were instrumental in protecting the safety of a person we support.

Steph responded to a concerned parent who learned that her son was picked up and taken to Minnesota by a man who he recently met online and he could not be reached. After multiple attempts to call and messages, Steph got the person who she serves to call her back so she could assess his safety.

Steph was quick thinking and she was able to identify his location by having him take screenshots of his cell phone maps. Steph communicated the info to the family, who together coordinated a speedy pickup and safe recovery of their family member. (who reportedly was found alone in an area of town that may not have been the safest place to be).

Even though this encounter was consensual and may have turned out to be of no concern….we have all read reports of criminals looking for opportunities to take advantage of people who are vulnerable. Those situations don’t usually end well.

I hate to think what could have happened if Steph had just decided that Saturday was her “day off” and chose not to deal with those texts until she was “on duty” on Monday.

Thank you, Steph for going above and beyond! Who knows…you may have saved his life!
