I received a call from Tegan promptly after finding that a person supported had a fever and also recognized that his typical tic cough had changed. I immediately advised to isolate the person and to assist all other people supported to their room if not already. We exchanged multiple calls that night as I gave several instructions on PPE and isolation procedures. She jumped into action demonstrating professionalism and leadership. If she was worried she definitely didn’t show it – but I certainly would have understood if she was. When the time came to get the person tested at the lave the next morning she assisted him with compassion and dignity – recognizing the importance of keeping him safe during the test.

During the next few days I read documentation from Tegan explaining the thorough care provided in isolation and taking the time to make sure he also was walking around being active. Tegan also made sure that other staff working out there received information given and had masks to wear. I cannot full express how comforting it is to know that we have such amazing staff who come together in times of uncertainty and fear of the unknown to do what we do best…care.

Courage is not the absence of fear – rather the ability to act in the presence of fear.
